Now, I wouldn’t normally watch a show named America’s Next Top Model, but I was channel-surfing and, in the half-second during which my television was set to the Life Network, I thought that the person on-screen was Hannah Spearritt from S Club 7. I flipped back and started watching, not knowing what the show was. Maurice and I ended up watching the whole episode because it was interesting how difficult modelling really is. I was under the impression that you just need to wear weird clothes and look as pretty as you possibly can. Also, Maurice thinks it’s funny when the girls whine and complain about each other.
It turned out that the girl who I thought was Hannah Spearritt really was Catie Anderson. I really don’t like her very much because she complains a lot and cries to get attention.
The show created a very bizarre juxtaposition when they used Switchfoot’s Poparazzi as the background music for one of their fashion-modelling segments. The song laments the saturation of picture-perfect faces and pop icons in the media, so it was strange to see a montage of make-up and models superimposed over the music. Also, in the elimination scene, they used Switchfoot’s Life and Love and Why too. The song lyrics didn’t fit with the moment at all, which is probably why they played only the instrumental part of it.
On another note, I got my Switchfoot ticket last week and I’m excited about going!
