It’s time to conquer Earf

There’s nothing like a good bit of early 90s nostalgia to keep me sane.

I remember when my mom banned me from watching the show because she thought they were the Mighty Morphine Power Rangers.

But now, I’m suddenly inspired to recruit a crew of teenagers with attitude. Who’s with me?

Specialty Coffee Solutions

So, a Specialty Coffee Solutions has opened up mere blocks from my house. Even before I had taken the first sip of my latte, I knew that I would be coming back again soon. The barista was totally serious about coffee. He answered the phone just before starting my drink but blew them off, saying, “I’ll call you back. I’m making a latte here.” He poured a nice rosetta in my cup, on par with the latte art at Caffe Artigiano.

Now, if they would spruce up the place a bit to make it more comfy, it just may become my new study place. I still like Laughing Bean a lot more, but SCS’s proximity to my home is a big plus.

True that, double true

With the federal election days away and the possibility of a Torie win, it’s getting fairly dramatic. Although I’m notoriously ignorant about politics, it’s hard to not hear about all the drama surrounding this election. I’ve been keeping up with it by checking up Pollstr.

Pollstr uses Google Maps to generate a map of all the political ridings in Canada with the the leading party in each, based on the previous election and current polls. It’s interesting to see how the nation is divided up between each party. According to the latest polls, Vancouver East has the strongest NDP support in any riding in Canada!

Ouch

I think I’m masochistic. I now officially have three part-time jobs, which will combine to average at about 25 hours of work per week on top of school. It also means that I will be cutting back on my hours at Blenz, since that’s my least paying job. Sorry Chrissy, I won’t be working Tuesday nights anymore!

For those of you who are curious, I’m now also a TA for Computer Science 100. I’ll be conducting labs, marking assignments and invigilating exams. In next week’s lab, I’ll be teaching students how to copy and paste, use Paint and surf the Internet. This will be an interesting semester.

And it begins

I was registered in five courses this semester, but I ended up dropping Math 302, anticipating the craziness that I will soon be facing. Unfortunately, I already have assignments in most of my classes, which means that I have to get started on things now - no time to slack off.

Also, between my two jobs, I will be working over 40 hours next week because people still haven’t come back from their vacations. So, I made myself start my assignments early. It’s only the third day of classes and I’ve already finished part of my Music History essay and most of my Computer Science lab.

I’ve also got to look for another co-op job this semester as well, which will be stressful. I’ve got my sights set on Google. We’ll see how it goes.
