Ouch

I think I’m masochistic. I now officially have three part-time jobs, which will combine to average at about 25 hours of work per week on top of school. It also means that I will be cutting back on my hours at Blenz, since that’s my least paying job. Sorry Chrissy, I won’t be working Tuesday nights anymore!

For those of you who are curious, I’m now also a TA for Computer Science 100. I’ll be conducting labs, marking assignments and invigilating exams. In next week’s lab, I’ll be teaching students how to copy and paste, use Paint and surf the Internet. This will be an interesting semester.

Isn’t it safe to assume that people taking Computer Science know how to copy and paste, let alone surf the internet?

hey that’s cool. how do you become a TA?

Em: This course is designed “for novice (though intelligent) computer users”. Computer Science majors can’t take this course for credit.

Fran: I just applied online and they accepted my application.

I still think it’s ridiculous. How the hell did they apply and register?

easy credit, but can anyone actually FAIL?? hmm..or is that just the lab portion but they do more challenging things in lectures?

CS 100 is generally intended for Arts students. There, I said it! It’s also considered “easy science credit” for basically any eligible student who has even a smidgen of knowledge about how to use e-mail. That being said, you might be surprised at how alien a computer seems to some people, and I don’t just mean people my parents’ age.

Hey Stew, if you’re a lab TA, don’t teach them how to use EBay. Your lowball bidding style might rub off on them. ;)

Fran: I’ve heard that somebody failed the course twice and begged the advisors to let her take it the third time. And she failed it again. :(

Andrew: The Google coop is for the summer - I’ll be quitting all these jobs by the end of April. Though, I might work part-time for Sauder on the side, depending on what kinds of projects they have for me.

San: But I don’t want to spend too much on my espresso machine … :P
