Wow, last night’s season premiere of The Amazing Race 9 was one of the best ever. Or maybe it was just okay, but in comparison to the lacklustre past three seasons, it was awesome.
For two hours, teams never got artificially bunched together because the building that has their next clue wasn’t open for another 10 hours. Their placing depended entirely on luck, skill and decision making, which is exactly what the race is supposed to be about. Throughout the show, teams fell behind and surged ahead, resulting in my least favourite team being eliminated from the race.
The premiere really proved that the producers don’t need to artificially add drama into the show, since the race inherently provides it through all the craziness of travelling to foreign countries, deciding between different tasks and putting your relationship through the stress of a 40-day competition.
So far, I really like Wanda and Desiree because they’re just really cute together. Also, David and Lori for pretty much the same reason, though their self-proclaimed nerdhood might get tiring soon. The competitors are fairly varied this season, which should make for interesting alliances and relationships between the teams.
Agreed. Awesome episode. So glad to have it all back to normal.
I don’t like Wanda and Desiree though. I hate the way Desiree is always explaining things to the camera like she thinks this is going to result in her getting a day time talk show and Wanda is a little screachy.
I loooooooooooooooove David and Lori. I can’t even stand how awesome they are. Also, I can’t stand how completely awesome BJ and Taylor (Tyler?) are. I looooooooooooove them too.
I’m surprised how I’m not completley annoyed by the Double D girls and the boys with the one with the nipple piercings. I thought I would completley hate them. I also kind of enjoy the sisters that the gay guys dubbed the “Frosties”. They’re cute, and even all their praying was okay.
The only team I really hate is Michelle and Lake. Lake is an asshole (did you notice how many times he talked about “the black team”?!), and Michelle is kind of annoying. Nothing specific about her, I just don’t like how she won’t tell Lake to go to hell.
I was surprised at how well David and Lori placed at the end of the leg. You don’t really think of them as a competitive force because they’re so nerdy and fun, but they still managed to end up close to the top.
Before watching the show, I really liked Eric and Jeremy because they reminded me of Rob and Brennan from season one, but after watching the premiere, they just seem like losers. Maybe I’ll change my mind again later, but they just kinda annoy me now.
I totally agree about Lake. I hate how he said that reserving the tickets over the phone was “partially” his fault, right after he was all, “Let’s take the next exit, find a phone and make reservations!”
I agree that Eric and Jeremy are losers, but I don’t think that they are losers that will piss me off, so its cool.
Eric and Jeremy seemed really mean and stupid. They’re good-looking but they’re like the ones who know they are and feel they can manipulate people with it. I like Ray and Yolanda, as well as Dave and Lori for their ability to work well together and encourage each other instead of demoralizing each other.
Looking forward to this season!
